2020 was chaotic – the coronavirus turned everything upside down, but it also created space for new things. Our partners in the travel industry were fighting for survival, whilst wilderness runs and tree-planting campaigns were cancelled. Yet your support has not wavered – for which we thank you most sincerely!
We used the time to make internal improvements and carry out important groundwork: a new sponsorship platform (available at 16m2 / €12.50), a new certificate design and our scientific CO2 calculator. Now we’re ready to hit the ground running and protect even more wilderness.
What happened at WI in 2020:
- Scientifically-backed CO2 calculator developed
- New sponsorship platform launched
- Sister foundation established in Peru; first land purchases made
- ‘Work for the Wild’ established as a replacement for the summer wilderness run
- Wilderness runs held in accordance with a hygiene protocol – 108,000 m2 of wilderness protected
- New sites found for ‘My Tree – My Dresden’; initiative expanded to Leipzig, Magdeburg and Husum
- Team changes: Ronny takes over as office manager, Tom strengthens IT structures
- Li-iL, Bisch-Chandaroff and STESAD secured as partners
- Doors in the ‘24 Good Deeds’ Advent calendar
2021 brings new opportunities: an environmental ambassador project for young people, wilderness conservation in Peru and CO2 offsetting with partners, individuals and schools – tangible work for our forests and our climate.
