Key points at a glance

Clarity, transparency and accuracy are important to us – both in nature conservation and in our communications. Please therefore note:

  • Three sister organisations, one mission
Wilderness International comprises three non-profit sister foundations in Germany, Canada and Peru. Each of the three foundations was co-founded by local people, and locals are actively involved in each one. There are always local projects, such as forest guardians in Peru. At an international level, we work together to protect wilderness and promote environmental education. Furthermore, all three foundations are always registered in the land registry when new land is purchased, to strengthen the security of the conservation efforts.
  • “Protecting the rainforest” rather than “buying”
it Donors and companies can join us in protecting the rainforest. You cannot buy forest from us. The forest areas are purchased by the three Wilderness International foundations in Peru, Canada and Germany and remain in their ownership. Donations finance the purchase and enable long-term protection. This is a symbolic sponsorship.
  • Every euro donated protects 1m² of forest in the long
term. Every one-off donation ensures the protection of the forest plot for the foreseeable future – not just for a year or a human lifetime – and every square metre protected permanently sequesters 60 kg of CO2. “The legal form of a foundation, unlike any other, allows a (charitable) purpose to be realised permanently and independently of external interests, thereby achieving the desired long-term effects.” North Rhine-Westphalia Consumer Advice Centre

Tested & recommended!

The Phineo ‘It Works!’ seal confirms that our work has a demonstrable impact and that we are a high-performing and transparent organisation.

To obtain it, we underwent a six-month, four-stage assessment by independent experts.

The non-profit organisation AG Phineo provides an independent and reliable assessment of the effectiveness of social engagement. In doing so, it saves private donors and companies – who are looking for projects for impactful engagement – the time-consuming and laborious task of scrutinising the details.

Donors and partners can therefore be confident that their contribution is being put to effective use by us.

WIRKT! seal showing certification as a proven and recommended effective organization by PHI NEO, September 2023.
