YouTopia 2024 protects forests with Wilderness International

The charity livestream is entering its fourth round

On 17 November, influential German content creators, environmental experts and other guests from the worlds of media, politics, science and culture will come together in a six-hour livestream to champion a common cause: to protect as much rainforest as possible with Wilderness International!

The event will be streamed live from 4 pm from the Bauwerk Köln under the slogan “Kahlschlag gegen Kahlschlag” on YouTube and Twitch. The content creators will open a hairdressing salon and cut the hair of members of their communities in return for voluntary donations. The game show will be accompanied by engaging talks, as well as a variety of challenges and entertainment segments.

The official trailer for YouTopia 2024 – on Sunday 17 November, from 4 pm on YouTube and Twitch.
Since 2008, Wilderness International has been purchasing old-growth forests in Canada and Peru that are under acute threat from deforestation and placing them under permanent protection. This is because primary rainforests, along with their swamps and bogs, are the most species-rich ecosystems and the largest CO2 sinks on Earth – and thus one of our most important tools in the fight against climate change and species extinction. Every euro donated protects one square metre of forest forever. And all donors receive a certificate and geocoordinates showing exactly and transparently where the piece of forest they have protected is located.

“We’re absolutely delighted to be this year’s YouTopia fundraising project and, through this campaign, to be able to help so many young people in particular understand the importance of the wilderness to us humans in such an entertaining way. The sheer energy and enthusiasm that all the creators, their communities and the campaign’s partners are bringing to this initiative is simply fantastic, and every single square metre of rainforest that is protected counts for all of us in the fight for a stable climate and biodiversity.”

With the fourth edition of this charity event, YouTube creator, presenter and science journalist Jacob Beautemps aims once again to draw attention to some of the most important issues of our time: climate change, species conservation and environmental protection, as well as sustainability.

The event is designed to appeal not only to those who are already committed to climate action, but also to those who have not yet engaged with the issue. So, alongside important content on environmental education, there’ll be plenty of fun and entertainment too!

The YouTopia hosts have seen for themselves the beauty and diversity of the temperate rainforest in western Canada.
To this end, the four YouTopia hosts – Jacob Beautemps (“Breaking Lab”), Felix Michels (“Tomatolix”), Rick Azas and Theresa Kirchner, who will be joined by prominent guests from the worlds of science, politics and television, all of whom will be taking part both in the run-up to the event and during the YouTopia programme itself. These include, amongst many other strong voices for nature conservation, Fabian Kahl (known from “Bares für Rares”/ZDF), the Wohllebens, Louisa Schneider, Micha Fritz, Dr Eckart von Hirschhausen (science journalist and founder of the Healthy Earth – Healthy People Foundation), as well as well-known content creators such as Nadine Breaty, Alicia Joe, Regina Hixt, Yvonne Pferrer & Jeremy Grube, Rewinside, HeyMoritz, Wurzelwerk and OttoBulletproof. Together, they are focusing their efforts – particularly through this year’s fundraising campaign – on supporting the charitable foundation Wilderness International, which works to protect the last remaining intact habitats – especially the world’s rainforests – in the long term.
“It’s incredible how many people are coming together once again under the YouTopia banner. The approach of ‘making a difference together’ is making an impact and shows that, together, we can bring about change. After all, ‘together rather than against each other’ is motivating and enables many people to identify with our causes. The important thing is that none of us is perfect, not even when it comes to sustainability. But we can all take important, small steps and, together, make a big difference. We need this positive approach more than ever before.”
