Impressions from the nature reserve

Amidst all this greenery, the splashes of colour from the tiger lilies and raspberry bushes can be seen. Tiny hummingbirds flit nimbly from flower to flower; their rapid wing beats – up to 80 per second – are nothing more than a blurred cinnamon-brown blur.
A hummingbird hovers in flight beside pink and purple flowers against a gray sky.
Hummingbirds such as this cinnamon-backed fairy can hover mid-air to sip the sweet nectar deep from the flower with their long beaks. Then these lightweight birds, weighing just 4g, have already vanished back into the thicket of ferns and leaves.
Animal paw prints pressed into sand with dried vegetation and scattered twigs nearby.
If you follow the tracks of the deer and coastal wolves across the sandbank, you’ll reach the forest.

Here, ancient groves of giant arborvitae grow high into the sky, their very tops draped with lichen.
Bright green lichen with lobed leaves and delicate spores on tree bark, with soft dark green blurred background.
Thick layers of lichen are an indication of a forest’s great age.
